Spring is here and hope follows closely behind. The cold weather shelter closed in early March; having struggled through the winter finding enough volunteers to maintain a safe shelter for adult males and providing shelter, warmth, meals, and love. A handful of people managed to keep the program running from November until early March. If you are moved to volunteer; consider answer the call next fall when the program starts up again. You will make a difference in someone’s life.
Our clients continue to flow through the agency with multiple needs, birth certificates, ID’s, medication assistance, and most of all dental assistance. There are questions about housing, where to find it, how to find money to pay for it, and many others requiring time to explain, where to go, and how to apply. Thanks to Community Foundation we have an extra computer that can be wheeled out to the reception area and our volunteers can assist with applications for unemployment, food stamps, and other benefits. Now that Social Security and Social Services are open to the public our work load has been lightened.
As Alexander Pope said, “Hope springs eternal” and we continue to serve those in need. If you are able to help with our feeding program please contact me, Donna Clark, 443-944-5279.
