Stories from the Basement

Stories from the Basement: July 2019

by Donna Clark RN, Director

Our fiscal year ended June 30th and now is the time we review our data and see just what we have accomplished in the past year. I found the statistics very surprising. In the office alone we saw 1386 different people with 1214 of them new clients. Another startling piece of information was that of the 1386 people we saw 1125 self-identified as homeless. We had a total of 4996 contacts with our clients over the last year and that breaks down to an average of 4 visits per person.

Now I know why we have been so tired at the end of our days!

We have been very blessed this year in that the donations and grants that came into the agency have allowed us to meet the needs of the clients in most cases. The support of your church has certainly made a huge difference in what we can do for the people who come to us.

We helped 106 different people obtain dental care, 42 receive eye care, and assisted over 150 people obtain their medications. We purchased walkers, canes, and other medical equipment for those who needed the extra support. To acquire employment or housing an individual needs an ID and a birth certificate. Those items are one of our biggest expenditures and so important to help break the cycle of homelessness.

We are so blessed to be a part of this community! Thank you.
